The National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan emphasizes that viral hepatitis elimination will require coordinated and collaborative efforts across stakeholders. As May Hepatitis Awareness Month approaches, the HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP) invites you to join us in highlighting efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis in the United States. We are developing a new webpage to feature a map of hepatitis elimination projects from across the United States, Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action.
Our goal is to use this resource for the benefit of all stakeholders in the fight against viral hepatitis. This new resource will help stakeholders find others like themselves, who believe it is feasible to eliminate the public health threat of viral hepatitis and who face similar challenges, to provide the opportunity to learn from each others’ projects. The information may also help other organizations identify efforts that they can join and expand support for elimination efforts. It will also raise awareness of the growing number of states, local jurisdictions and non-governmental organizations that are setting their sights on achieving the elimination of viral hepatitis among the people they serve.
Projects will be listed by name and include the primary organization(s) supporting the project, a link to available online information such as a website or a press release, population(s) served, and timeframe of the project. We have seen that elimination may be based in organizations such as health systems, networks serving special populations, city or county coalitions, statewide, regional, and national groups. All of these types of projects are welcome to join and be part of Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action.
If you are part of an established hepatitis elimination project, please consider joining us by April 22 to promote your program during the initial launch. Although the initial Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action is currently planned for release in May 2019, we will continue to add new projects throughout the year. Join us in showcasing the great viral hepatitis elimination work taking place across the nation!
To add your project to the map, email Corinna Dan at Corinna.Dan@hhs.gov with the name of your project, a brief description, and links to the project website, any press release, or other available online information.
