Cross-posted from the HHS.gov Hepatitis blog
Every May, the United States and the global community observe Hepatitis Awareness Month. Last year, the HHS Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) invited partners and stakeholders to join the growing effort to eliminate hepatitis across the United States. Since launching Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action last May, the number of projects has nearly doubled, with a notable increase in programs focusing on the elimination of hepatitis B virus (HBV). OIDP alsoadded a new category to the map to capture programs focused on eliminating hepatitis C virus (HCV) among people coinfected with HIV.
The map features projects at the local, state, and national levels. This resource can help organizations identify efforts that they can join and expand support for U.S. elimination efforts. It also raises awareness of the growing number of states, tribal, local jurisdictions and non-governmental organizations that are setting their sights on achieving the elimination of viral hepatitis among the populations they serve.
This May, we will share a series of blogs highlighting elimination projects from Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action. These projects offer strategies and best practices that can be useful when adapted to other clinics, health systems, counties, and localities. We invite you to join us in highlighting efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis in the United States during May and throughout the year.
Note: Mapping Hepatitis Elimination in Action is regularly updated. If you are part of an established hepatitis elimination project and wish to add your project to the map, email Corinna Dan at Corinna.Dan@hhs.gov with the name of your project, a brief description, and links to the project website, press release, or other available online information.
