Mavyret made by AbbVie is a new dynamo hepatitis C treatment with a high cure, and less side effects that can be used for all genotypes (virus strains). Hep C patient Jean shares her treatment experience with Mavyret.
Connie: Jean, thank you so much for being willing to share your treatment experience with Mavyret. It’s a great way to give a helping hand to others who are dealing with Hep C. Let’s get started.
Connie: How did you find out you had Hep C?
Jean: I was diagnosed with Hep C in 2004 at a Public Health Clinic.
Connie: Did you have any symptoms prior to your diagnosis, if so what?
Jean: No, I didn’t have any symptoms at all.
Connie: Are you seeing a Hepatologist or Gastroenterologist for your Hep C and treatment?
Jean: The specialist I’m seeing is a Hepatologist.
Connie: What genotype are you?
Jean: I’m genotype 3.
Connie: Did you ever have a liver biopsy? If so, what type?
Jean: Yes, I had a needle biopsy.
Connie: Were you diagnosed with any liver damage prior to your treatment? If so, what type and stage?
Jean: Yes, I was told I did not have cirrhosis but was between stage 2-3 fibrosis.
Connie: Have you been diagnosed with any other liver-associated condition?
Jean: Yes, I have Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.
Connie: If you have been diagnosed with any other liver condition, what does your doctor recommend?
Jean: My doctor wants me to follow up with an ultrasound to look closer at the fatty liver. They also recommend I continue on a healthy diet and regular exercise program to help improve the fatty liver condition.
Connie: If you don’t mind sharing this: Did you talk to your family, friends, co-workers, or your employer about your Hep C diagnosis and/or treatment?
Jean: Yes, I did inform only my immediate family and a few close friends and a person in leadership at my church. Also whenever I feel that it can help someone, I do share with them.
Connie: Do you know your viral load count prior to beginning treatment?
Jean: Yes, it was 12,199, 915.
Connie: Have you ever done treatment for Hep C before?
Jean: No, this was my first and only treatment.
Connie: Some patients are running into problems with insurance approval and being denied treatment with having to fight with appeals, did you run into any problem getting approved for your treatment or your care?
Jean: No, not at all. My insurance would have paid, but it turned out that I qualified for the treatment to be given to me at no cost by the drug company (AbbVie) after I submitted my income to them.
Connie: You used Mavyret by AbbVie, did you have to use any other meds with it?
Jean: No, just Mavyret.
Connie: What date did you begin your treatment with Mavyret and how long was your treatment?
Jean: I began Mavyret on June 23rd of 2018 and finished treatment August 17th, 2018.
Connie: Wow, That’s fantastic that you were able to do the 8- week treatment.
Thanks, Jean for sharing today. We’re looking forward to hearing more of your treatment experience next week. Stay tuned folks!
